Modern Nostalgia Video: The Night That Pro Stock Came Back to Life

The one thing missing from today’s booming world of nostalgia drag racing is a vintage Pro Stock class. You know what we’re talking about. Small blocks, real four speed transmissions, limited suspension technology, no tube chassis. Real cars with real drivers rowing gears. The ultimate tease happened last July at Thompson Dragway in Thompson, Ohio when they ran that very class for one freaking night. Talk about leading us on!

There were old cars dragged out of the mothballs, newer cars retro-fitted to comply with the rules, and a house packed to the gills with people psyched up to see it. It is actually kind of surprising that no organizatin or group has sprung up to champion this deal or at least cull a group of cars that could tour and hit nostalgia and match races either nationally or regionally.

We love our slingshots and floppers, but damn, this is primo stuff. The video was taken by Dawn Hovsepian, a longtime pal of BangShift, and a woman who grew up at drag strips across America and who once called Thompson her home track. Press play below to see some truly bitchin’ Pro Stock action!
