Morning Symphony: Cruising Action From Powercruise Sydney!

While we in the States are thawing out from snow or enjoying the absolutely mental nearly-Spring weather (how much rain can possibly fall?!) the gearheads in the Land Down Under are doing what they seem to be doing every day of the week: they are out enjoying their cars in a manner befitting the mental nature of the locals. That means doing just about any and everything that the local non-car friendly populace chalks up as an anti-social evil that needs to be punished at the highest state levels possible. Luckily, events like Powercruise haven’t been outlawed yet. Like other events in similar format, Powercruise basically gives the hot-rodder a place to do what they want to do where the anti-gearheads can’t do squat but sit outside the gates and complain about it all.

While we tend to gravitate towards the burnout contests, Powercruise offers up much more. There are the powerskid contests, where the goal is to keep the tires boiling without the brakes as long as possible while accelerating, shows, racing and more. This is the cruise, which is more-or-less free laps around a circuit course but you can have friends riding along and nobody is going to bother you if you decide that now is the right time to turn the rear tires into a haze, or if you want to drift the next corner. So long as you aren’t going to mangle another car in the process, have at it, mate.

As is with most of Australia’s car culture, you’ll get a mix of V8, supercharger whine, turbocharger hiss, evil six cylinder wail and more at any point in time. We don’t care if it’s a Falcon, Commodore, Skyline or the random fourth-gen Camaro that somehow made it across the pond…go drive it!
