Sometimes I think we forget that GM pickup trucks are not JUST the number one donor for LS engines, but also the most likely vehicle any of us will own that is LS equipped. With that said, and the fact that so many of the LS Swaps going on right now are truck projects, maybe some of our choices for LS engine builds aren’t appropriate for what most of them are going in. So what do you do if you have an LS powered Silverado or Sierra and want more power for towing and doing truck stuff? Or what about swapping a 5.3 into a Square Body Chevy pickup or something? It’s still a truck, so maybe that should be considered when doing the build. And perhaps you can take advantage of the hood clearance to use an intake that really works with truck engine builds and more?
Here are two videos testing two different truck cams from Brian Tooley Racing. Their Stage 1 cam still idles nice, doesn’t require valve spring upgrades, and makes big power. Their Stage 2 Cam does all that but at another level. The idle is still okay, and it works great with a stock torque converter, and still doesn’t need a valve spring upgrade. The power gains are nuts and you’ll really feel it behind the wheel.
Check out Richard Holdener’s testing of both.
I like this guys videos. Not a bunch of fluff, just the facts.
