Nitrous Explosion Video: This Is Definitely The Highest We Have Ever Seen A Hood Scoop Launched

While this video does not have the titanic destructive force that other nitrous explosions we have featured in the past, it definitely has one element that is worth seeing. That element is watching the hood scoop on this Nova launching like a bottle rocket. This thing gets high enough that the FAA was probably aware of its presence. It may have briefly showed up on NASA’s space junk tracking software, we’ve never seen one go this high. Normally fiberglass pieces just explode into shards but this scoop stayed intact and made for the sky.

It seems that this drive made the mistake that many other nitrous explosion sufferers have made, which is to say that the car stalled and instead of simply killing the power and being pushed back, the driver hit the start button and ignited an intake manifold full of spray like a bomb. The fireball and concussion from the explosion will serve as a long standing reminder for the driver not to do that again. Hopefully there wasn’t too much damage, but we’re guessing that the intake manifold was destroyed in the blast.

Press play to see a hood scoop reach new heights…literally.

Next time you get a chance, ask Mike Crow how long it took for all the chunks and pieces of his genuine AAR ‘Cuda hood to fall back to Earth when the Hemi he had in his car sneezed on a load of nitrous at Kansas City International Raceway.

Let’s just say it was raining fiberglas for a long, long time…
