Not The Pace Car! Watch The Wildest Way To Take Out An Innocent Mustang We’ve Ever Seen!

Not The Pace Car! Watch The Wildest Way To Take Out An Innocent Mustang We’ve Ever Seen!

It’s the most quotable line from “Days of Thunder”. When Cole comes in for a pit under caution, Harry informs him to go out and hit the pace car. Why? “Because you’ve hit every other god-damned thing out there, I want you to be perfect!” The true words of an enraged team leader who is about to reach through the window net and choke the daylights out of a potential prodigy. The pace car is sacred in the world of roundy-round racing. The screw ups are notable…the 1971 incident where the Dodge Challenger convertible went plowing through the grandstand filled with press, the 1986 incident where a 20-year-old stole the Pontiac Trans Am that was supposed to be the pace car and started ripping around Talladega with the police in tow. But after today, none will top the incident that went down at Citrus County Speedway in Florida.

Coming off of what appeared to be either a caution or the start of a small car class race, the drivers were running tightly when someone got upset, the car got out from underneath them, and in true Florida fashion, it found the one potential jump location, near a light pole, and launched the race car in a perfect parabolic arc that allowed it to land on the late-model Mustang pace car, right on the passenger front fender. From what little we know, everybody seems to be ok.

This is why you sign the waiver, folks…anything can happen, and that is meant literally.

(Thanks to Kevin Brown for the tip!)

Notice the guy in the electric wheelchair heading to the rescue in the last seconds?

I work at this track, it was the beginning of the mini stock race… The driver and the 2 guys in the pacecar are fine besides the driver got a nasty cut on his hand and the pacecar passengers being sore from the airbags going off… They are all very lucky!!

Wow, You don’t think they are going that fast. And I know that car hit that mound around the light pole. But it flew 70′ . Glad no one bad hurt.
