WATCH CRAZY ARABIAN DUNE RACERS RIP UP THE SAND – NEW TOP FUEL PILOT AL-BALOOSHI AMONG THEM

One of the cooler motor sports we’ve never gotten to see in person is the unique style of sand drags/hill climbs that are contested over in Arabia. These are wild tube chassis trucks with turbo, nitrous, and blower engines making thousands of horsepower. Racers run up giant dunes in a time trial format and the quickest elapsed time to the top wins. This video is a highlight reel from a recent race where some of the top competitiors are hammering on their junk for a spot on the podium. The NHRA’s newest Top Fuel driver, Khalid Al Balooshi is among them.

One of the things that we’re impressed with is that these trucks do not use scooper style tires like we see at the sand drags. Instead they use a normal radial or bias-ply off road tire. Like in the case of mud bog drag racing, the key to success is not to slog through the sand, but to plane over it. This requires insane wheelspeed and that requires insane levels of horsepower.

Pay attention to the differing exhaust notes that will tip you off to nitrous machines, turbocharged machines, and traditional blower equipped trucks. Also, you’ll hear some screaming six cylinder engines in a field otherwise dominated by V8s. Those six holers are probably 2JZ Toyota mills, at least that is our guess by the exhaust note. Thanks to Cory for the tip!

Press play and watch the sand fly!

  1. Ermott

no 2jz’s there. More like tb48 – nissans “big block” straight 6.

Search youtube for nissan patrol vs anything and watch.

  2. Mopar or no Car

Reminds me of some of those recent TV commercials where some sort of truck (Tacoma, Lada Niva) ascends a hill of rock or sand at an unrealistic rate. Only difference is these trucks are real and not computer generated! Amazing!
