Farm Find Revival Battle: Who Will Get Their Decrepit Dodge Fired Off First?

Farm Find Revival Battle: Who Will Get Their Decrepit Dodge Fired Off First?

From past experiences and discussions with Kevin and Luke, it must be said: they all but utterly loathe Chrysler products. Maybe Kevin has a bit of lingering anger over changing a basic starter in a Plymouth Satellite. Maybe it’s because they’ve only messed with Fords forever and that if it isn’t a Blue Oval product they get confused…unless it has a possum sitting on the engine, hissing in anger, at which point all bets are off. Whatever the reason, they both are pretty much against any Chrysler product, no matter how simple the setup is. Which is why they went for two Dodge products in a kind of revival battle scene that I’m not sure played out quite like they were hoping.

Here’s the rundown: Kevin and his friend Jayden would be waking up a 1977 Dodge B100 Maxi with a carbureted 360, while Luke and his pal Angus would go after a 1989 Dodge Ram W150 with a TBI 318. Now, off the jump, the van gets the nod for simplicity. It’s carbureted, so as long as there’s spark and there isn’t a pile of garbage in the oil pan, it should run. Small-block Chryslers can tolerate severely abusive conditions. The Ram’s TBI setup is a Holley built unit, which puts Luke…Mr. Carburetor himself…well out of bounds. Since this is Iowa, both bodies are crispy, there’s probably a rodent problem that neither team will find, and the best plan for either rig is to get them delivered to Kentucky so I can take the half-decent interiors out and put them into something that doesn’t look like it got parked on a Puget Sound tideflat for the last six years.

I mean…the best thing is to get them running, driving, and to beat the other team! Yeah, that’s it…

They’re coming to Kentucky? What’s going on with them there? Throw together a subframe and push the rear wheels back a foot or so on the maxie, and have a great all around, do anything vehicle!
