Best of 2019: Rust Avengers Part 3 – The Pontiac Engine Built In A Hotel Room!

It’s a shame that I only got one day to spend with the YouTube collective now known as the Rust Avengers, because the next day I started getting texts and photos sent to me of one of the best things I’ve ever seen happen, period. And before you get ready to write that comment, remember that I’ve never been on Power Tour, Drag Week, RMRW or anything like that, and that my prior experience only saw builds in the back of a pickup truck bed. Here’s the run-up: the Deboss Garage Pontiac GTO had been making the tour in a trailer, because the 400ci engine was dead as a doornail and the 455ci mill wasn’t ready in time. Luckily, after the Sparta, Kentucky meet, the 455 was delivered and just needed final assembly. Surely, a team of YouTubers could handle putting together one Pontiac engine overnight, right?

Well, of course they could. But here’s the problem: where do you work on an engine when you’re in the middle of a gigantic road trip? The answer? Hotel room! Covered, conditioned, and you can order pizza up…who needs sleep when there’s an engine on a luggage cart ready to be slammed together in the name of finishing Power Tour on a high note?
