Super Screamer: Street Machine Take Their Barra-Swapped Miata To Summernats!

Is there anything the Mazda Miata can’t do? What initially was a cute little roadster with great handling has become one of those neat jack-of-all-trade kind of models. I’ve seen them stuffed to the brim with motor and drag raced. I’ve seen them lifted up, given the “safari” treatment, and rallied like none other. I’ve seen them made into hardcore track monsters. You can do just about anything with a Miata, provided you know how to get some power into the little two-seater. Ford 302s, LS swaps, Toyota mills…name it, it’s been shoved in one at some point. Even a Hellcat Hemi has been crammed under that hood.

This MX5 has been one of Street Machine’s engine pigs for a while now. Formerly fitted with a twin-turbocharged LS under the hood, a plan to up the ante went south and the next thing anybody knew, the Mazda was getting a Ford Barra six under the hood. The Barra’s reputation as Australia’s answer to the Toyota JZ and the Nissan RB sixes is cemented and in a Miata, has to be an all-out riot. Follow along as Scotty takes the Mazda to the hub dyno and the burnout road for a little bit of hellraising fun at Summernats 33!
