As the mercury climbs in our thermometers and the humidity jumps from “bad” to “alarming” for everyone in the Northern Hemisphere, on the other end of the world it’s the start of wintertime, which is a fantastic time to reflect on the year and everything that has happened in the past twelve months. For videographer Flinty460, it’s the perfect time to wash the rubber out of his clothes, scrub the little black flecks off of the skin and to review the footage from the past year for every time the skidpad went from a killer burnout to a scene of mechanical horror. Lots of things can and will go badly when you’re winding the tach back around on itself with ungodly amounts of power at your disposal while going nowhere. And that’s all before you involve the driver’s skill…or lack thereof…during the whole process.

We’re all for driving violently at the appropriate place and time. There aren’t many places better to go completely and utterly mental than on an Aussie skidpad. With fire crews, medics, and plenty of staff available to communicate with the driver on-hand, it’s about as good as you’re going to get when you want to hear that blown big-block hit 9,000 RPM while your rear tires are turning into little more than a greasy film on the asphalt. But it’s a motorsport…things still happen. Whether that is a wall-tap from too much enthusiasm on the tip-in to the moment where the flash point of the rear tires is found and we’ve gone from a smokeshow to a full-on Ghost Rider situation, at least the safety crews are on standby and ready to leap in.
