These Motocross Riders Are Insane – Like Rockbouncers, But Without The Rollcage!

Rockbouncers just might be the most unhinged, insane form of off-roading. Purpose-built tube-frame monstrosities packing four-digit horsepower levels, flying up hills and over just about everything in their way, being driven by people who celebrate when they make it to the top of the hill after breaking something or having rolled down said hill a time or two…yeah, they might take the crown for the most mental group of off-roaders. Maybe. But I’d like to offer up motocrossers. Not the type you see running arena races, but the kind of people who park their bikes at the bottom of a cliff face, look up and decide, “yeah, I can make it”. Down on traction compared to the four-wheeled bouncers, inherently more unstable, and riding on success that will be decided on rider skill, the biker stands to lose more often than any bouncer can. And they’ll feel it much more when things go wrong. But when things go right, the sense of pride is higher. Especially when a group of friends are available to witness the moment, win or fail.

Lots of poetry, huh? Here’s the reality: it’s pure peer pressure. Everybody else is going to try to fling their bike up the hill….you don’t want to be the one guy that doesn’t, do you? No…you’ve got a helmet, you’ve got proper riding gear, and you’ve got a thumper of a bike that can handle it if you can. Line up, take one deep breath, and give it hell. Glory awaits!

We used to do stuff like that on 1970’s enduro’s with the old style dual shocks on the rear. Like 4″ of travel total.
