This 1950 Buick Is Large, In Charge, And Driven All Over The Place (Video)

This 1950 Buick Is Large, In Charge, And Driven All Over The Place (Video)

Here’s another great short film from our pals at Holley that highlights a neat car that they found during the 2013 Holley National Hot Rod Reunion at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The focus of this film is a 1950 Buick cruiser that the owner rolled up from Florida in to the show. One of the neatest things about the Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion is the fact that people come from all over the country to check it out. The drag racing is fun but the car show is truly amazing at Beech Bend. There are acres and acres of rolling hills that people hang out on and trees provide plenty of shade. This video was shot in one of the nicest parts of the show area and yes, it is under some shade trees because historically the weekend is a few degrees shy of “blast furnace” temps with humidity to match. Believe it or not, that adds to the whole atmosphere…but back to the car!

We’re very happy to report that this car does not have an LS engine in it. In fact it doesn’t have a Chevrolet engine in it at all….or a Buick. The old straight eight was locked up tight when the guys who own the car got possession of it so it was removed and a 500ci Cadillac V8 was used as a replacement and backed with a Turbo 400 transmission. You can see that the fuel mixer is a tried and true Holley four barrel carb and that the body is the only part of the car that has not been loved up on. The front suspension uses a Nova style subframe and the rear suspension is a four link with coil overs. The interior is beautiful and has a nicely restored dash, plush looking bench seats, and revived factory gauges that are cool and classy beyond description. The exterior has the popular worn and weathered but not terminally rusty appearance that people are so into these days (we’re among them although we know many of you aren’t…to each his own). One thing that the guy says in the video struck us as interesting. He wipes the body down with some sort of protectant/lubricant to keep things looking as they are and not advancing any further toward death rust. Hey, even the patina guys have to maintain their look. Who’d a thunk it?

This car and this guy are cool! Hit the link to watch “The Total Package” shot at the Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion in 2013 –
