Until Old Age Takes Them Back To The Weeds: Digging Through An Abandoned Junkyard In England

This video takes me back to my childhood…namely, the days where I’d prowl around in the woods between Olalla and Bremerton, Washington hunting the wrecks and abandoned cars left in the woods along random trails. Cars as old as a 1940s Plymouth and as new as an early 1980s Chevette spread throughout the Kitsap County Penninsula just as thick as the blackberry vines and the salal bushes do. Every new find was a new story to learn, a new mystery that only existed based upon the shell of a car that someone left behind with no intention of returning for. The Monte Carlo with it’s front sheetmetal removed for a hasty engine removal…the 1970s Capri that nobody seemed to know how to fix…the late 1960s VW that nobody could be bothered to repair at all. Old, unloved cars were the norm, but they were spread out all over creation and none were too terribly rare or desirable.

This is what probably is an abandoned junkyard somewhere in the UK, the location remaining a guarded secret. It’s a mix of older UK items, both classic and everyday vehicles, a couple of American oddities (good luck finding two Ford Probes in a junkyard tomorrow!) and one absolute gem of a find in-between. To get through them, a whole host of problems will crop up, namely in the form of thick-thorned blackberry vines and stinging nettles. Just imagine yourself walking among the rotting sheetmetal, the flaking paint, and the history that each vehicle has that you’ll have to work to learn about.
