This cool video caught both our eyes and our ears when we first saw it. Our eyes because it shows some awesome old school drag iron running down the strip, and our ears because of the voice over stylings of the English announcer. Santa Pod Raceway is on our bucket list of places to visit in our lifetime. It is the Bakersfield of drag racing in Europe and the first purpose built drag strip in the UK.
If this ad were made for a strip in the US from the same time period, a voice like that of Jan Gabriel would be booming out of the speakers screaming and yelling about how the event was the second coming. We’re thinking that this is the English equivalent. It has a level of intensity, but maintains a properly restrained level of decorum.
The UK has lots of drag history and Santa Pod is technically the quickest and fastest strip on Earth, as it was the scene of Slammin’ Sammy Miller’s 3.8-second lap in his hydrogen peroxide rocket car.
