Watch a Mustang’s Burnout Contest Performance Come to a Flaming End!

Watch a Mustang’s Burnout Contest Performance Come to a Flaming End!

We got tipped off to this video by the guys at ReplayXD cameras. A ReplayXD was mounted at ankle height during the burnout contest at the NMCA Nationals in Commerce, Georgia. The camera captured a SN197 Mustang absolutely melting the hides off the back of itself and belching tire smoke everywhere. It also happened to catch the flaming end of the burnout where the tire seems to ignite and launch some pretty good licks of flame out of the wheel well. The NMCA safety guy was mere feet away from the car, so as soon as it flamed up, he was at the ready with a fire extinguisher.

We’ve never actually had a burnout end in flames. We’re not sure if that means we’re doing it wrong or doing it right. Granted we have had a vehicle or two burn to the ground, so that may count for something. Thankfully for the owner of this Mustang, the excitement of the fire was not followed by a bunch of melted and destroyed parts. The car seems unscathed.

Spinning the tires with the brakes on is TOTAL BULLSHIT!

I would be more entertained if they poured gasoline under the car and burned it to the ground!

I agree that burnout comps are a bit pointless – but at least our cars in Australia get a bit out of shape and move around! I don’t get this sit in one spot on a steel pad crap… and WTF is up with the crime tape to the driver in case they lose him in the smoke?? And OK, a few flames.. big deal. Seriously, check out a few Aussie burnouts! Cars flying around doing donuts with half the arse on fire, bouncing off armco barriers and people hanging out the windows gee ing up the crowd… I still maintain burnout comps are pointless, and I wouldn’t do that to my car, but at least theres a bit of entertainment value and skill to them (at least in Australia) – – I know you guys are crippled by insurance or safety nazi’s but seriously, there is nothing entertaining about this video…
