We have to thank Craig Sutherland for sending us this awesome video of Alex Hammond and Chris Beighton racing their real GT35o on the high banks of Daytona at the HSR Bob Snodgrass 2-Hour Enduro. This event took place only a couple of weekends back at the great facility and we’re cheesed that we were not there. HSR (Historic Sports Car Racing Ltd) puts on several races ever year at places like Daytona, Sebring, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio, Palm Beach, etc. The events have a wide range of classes and races that go on all weekend. We’re actually hoping to provide you some HSR coverage next season if we can work it all out. We love this type of racing and you do too. Hell, we KNOW you are going to go ape over the video below which shows the GT350 wound up tight on the Daytona road course swallowing Porsches and other cars.
This race car started life as an actual Shelby GT350, it was not an R-model, but then again there were only a couple dozen of those made and they are worth close to a million bucks a piece, so race track action isn’t exactly the most likely scenario for them. With a very angry sounding 289 under the hood, a classic dark blue and orange paint scheme, and capable drivers, this Mustang is a great piece to “ride” in via in-car camera. Obviously the thing that is so cool about the Daytona road course is the fact that you get both the slice and dice of the turns, but you also get a LOT of time on the famous banks of the super speedway as well and that is where this Mustang absolutely sings.
As the car comes out of the last corner before rising up the apron and onto the speedway you can hear the driver lean into the throttle and once he is up there, he flat foots the car and it sounds MAGNIFICENT. We have no idea where the motor peaked with respect to RPM but if it wasn’t more than 8,000 we’d be shocked. It sounds so good and adding to that goodness is the fact that the Mustang walks by an unidentified black car and then totally eats up a Porsche. That part warmed our little hearts and somewhere Carroll Shelby is smiling.

Great car, well-done video.
Shel’s smiling don on you…
awesome!
Your “unidentified black car” is actually a Porsche 914
Sound is so sweet on the high banks of Daytona!
That was beautiful!! Been a long time since I heard one sing as sweet as that!
Guy in the ‘Vette at the beginning wasn’t watching his mirrors to squeeze the Mustang below the line. Historic racing means you also preserve the cars with a little give and take. Cool vid!
Nice.
For regular guys without Genuine Shelby/NASCAR pushrod budgets . . . buy a Coyote on easy payment terms, rip off the mufflers, and enjoy the “symphony” . . . .
absolute music to hear that pony buzzing around the high banks, another BS gem!!!!!
