We’ve gotta love guys like AJ Fiorelli. Last weekend at Central Illinois Dragway, AJ took his Barracuda down the entire eighth mile strip, plus 100-feet on the rear wheels. This would be cool if the car were a traditional wheelstander exhibition car, but is isn’t. Yes, it runs as an exhibition machine, but the motor is in front, he’s shifting a Lenco transmission, and there’s no wheelie or skid bars. This thing literally drags the bumper for the entire length of the course with the car standing in a near vertical position. You can hear him pulling the Lenco levers and the motor is working like crazy the whole time. Unlike traditional wheelstanders, this thing does not have independent brakes to steer with and the only thing that keeps Fiorelli off the concrete walls are his right foot and the fact that he got a super clean launch.
We showed you “Launching Larry’s” wreck yesterday, well here is the Ying to that ones Yang. This is the ultimate “freehand” wheelie. There’s nothing about this car that is designed to be a dedicated wheelie machine to this length of a track. It is virtually impossible to do this in a repeatable fashion lap after lap, but on this run, Fiorelli does it all perfectly and the results are one of the coolest laps we have ever seen on a strip. We have a couple of videos from different angles below. The one from the top end is our favorite because It gives you the best audio of the car being shifteed, the speed it is carrying, and how close to vertical it really is.
