A couple weeks back our drag racin’ BangShifty brothers and sisters in England held a big nostalgia meet at Santa Pod called Dragstalgia. There were lots of cool cars and hopefully some of you tuned into the live broadcast we promoted on the blog. One of the wildest rides of the event came from Richard Colby in his high powered Anglia. We were tipped off to a super slow motion video of the run showing just how temperamental short wheelbase big umph cars can be on the quarter mile, no matter the continent.
You’ll see Colby launch off, go into tire shake, pedal and then fight to keep the Anglia off the center line (unsuccessfully). Things get really interesting to watch when he makes it to the eighth mile and wipes out a couple of timing blocks while wrasslin’ the car to the right. Once the car starts heading that way, it gets up on two wheels and appears to be headed for certain slow motion doom but he keeps it off the wall. The car continues to misbehave all the way to the timing traps as you’ll see Colby continue to fight it as the Anglia yaws back and forth across his lane. In real time, this all happened in a few seconds. In super slow motion you watch it happen over the course of two minutes! This is awesome video and it was a great save by Colby to get away with some damaged foam blocks and a firesuit that may need a hose out.
