Watch The “Open Container” Boat/Truck Capsize At A Northwest Tuff Truck Competition – 100% BangShift Approved Action!

Dave Tucker of Oregon is a man we want to drink beer with. He owns and operates a welding and fabrication business that does lots of work with off road guys, he has built his own monster trucks, and he enjoys competing in Tuff Truck competitions which are kind of like a closed course, budget version of desert racing. The trucks tend to be kind of hammered and the drivers tend to be kind of tapped in the head. The combo of those two things makes Tuff Truck competition awesome fun to watch. There are usually jumps and obstacles for trucks to contend with and the vehicles themselves often range from barely modified pickups to pieces like Dave Tucker’s “Open Container” machine. Well, ok. There’s not another damned thing on Earth like Dave Tucker’s Open Container because it is a tube chassis truck wrapped in a boat hull. Seriously. A real boat hull.

As we mentioned in the title, Tucker “capsizes” the creation during his sprint around a tight course inside what appears to be a hockey arena. There’s a monster truck show going on as well so the Tuff Truck guys must have been filling in between rounds of the monster action. Don’t let the wacky boat body fool you. Tucker’s truck is pretty nasty and you get to see more of it than he planned when it goes turtle and exposes the underside. Before it flips you can see that the truck has four wheel independent suspension and it looks to have some pretty gnarly levels of travel. Elsewhere we read that the number is about 18″ on the corners, using some custom shocks that Dave did. The whole thing looks to be constructed of chrome moly tubing. Power is provided by a 460ci big block Ford engine that is mounded midships (and that is an accurate statement here!). The upswept headers look cool and they emit the right kind of noises!

The whole thing is pretty cool and definitely points to the fact that Tucker has a sense of humor. We love creative stuff like this that actually gets thrashed and used! We’re sure every kid there remembered that truck and years down the road will drop the ever popular, “Hey dad, remember the time we saw that boat-truck thing?” You’ve gotta love it.

We declare the Open Container as being 100% BangShift APPROVED! Now we want to pilot…err…drive it.

I’d seen a boat on a S10 chassis in the 24 Hours of Lemons, but this is a lot more serious of an effort.
