Supercheap Auto sponsors Australia’s Great Race, the Bathurst 1000, but they also got Marty and Moog from Mighty Car Mods to host the “Unprofessionals Race” ahead of the last weekend’s action featuring a cast of Australian celebrities and athletes. Rather than settle who was quickest on the racetrack, the Unprofessionals Race sought to encapsulate the real Bathurst experience down to the stinky campsites on Mount Panorama, track-crossing kangaroos, and state-fair food offerings.
It’s all pretty entertaining, even though we Yanks have no idea who the hell any of the celebrities are. The car used looks like either an older V8 Supercar or one from one of the Dunlop Development Series with an actual H-pattern shifter, but it’s close enough. At least two of the competitors had never driven a manual transmission at all and on what better car could you learn than a rip-snorting V8 race car? It’s a pretty entertaining watch, even for sponsored content, and the mulleted motorized-cooler riding has considering travel options for Bathurst 2017.
