This is not the first time we have showed you video of the truly awesome Wild Rat injected nitro fuel altered and it will not be the last. Why are we back with more cackling madness from this Fiat bodied pile of awesome? The main reason is because we love the car but the other piece of the puzzle is that these guys just reset their own records for being the quickest and fastest injected nitro altered of all time. Yes, they ran 4.17/170 in the eighth at Dyno Dom’s Sikeston Dragway in Missouri last weekend and we have the videos below. There is ZERO exotica here. The car runs a big block Chevrolet engine, has a cast tunnel ram style intake, and chews on a load of 90% nitro or more depending on the weather and the mood of the Lippard family who operate the car. Greg is the driver.
Of the videos below of last weekend’s fun we decided to lead with the in-car because it gives an accurate and pretty amazing glimpse into what this car does when it runs down the track. For starters you are going to see the team do a burnout. This is not notable until you realize that they literally ever did burnouts until an association that they run with mandated them. While the run is nice and smooth, the shutdown area is kind of interesting and Lippard manages to negotiate the turn off at a pretty decent rate of speed. Everyone is fine, it just looked pretty busy down there.
Like the Drastic Plastic car out of the Chicago area, this machine is tuned by ear and experience. Looking at the parts tells these guys the story they need to set it up for the next round. Perhaps the coolest part of the whole operation is the knob that Greg Lippard has inside the car. Found on sprint cars, this is a fuel enrichment knob and he is adjusting the heck out of it when they get the car fired for the run. With nothing but basic gauges, the only thing dictating his adjustments is the sound of the engine. How bad ass is that?!
This car is everything that it is right and good with the sport. It is a family affair, nitro on a budget, and it hauls ass. For those of you who really want to see a show, attend the Fuel Altered Nationals at Eddyville, Iowa this year and you’ll see the first injected car that has ever entered that shark tank and it’ll be the Wild Rat. The team has announced their plans and we wish them nothing but the best.

The car reminds me how much I enjoyed the injected nitro funny cars in the early ’70s that competed in circuits like the East Coast Fuel Funny Cars. A track could book in a 16 car A/FC show for about what it cost to hire a couple of big name cars. I wish NHRA would allow injected nitro motors in Top Alcohol FC.
