We attend FAST XFI Fuel Injection Training

We attend FAST XFI Fuel Injection Training

We were recently invited to participate in a FAST XFI Fuel Injection Training class at Westech Performance Group. Our class was held at Westech Performance Group, the Unofficial Official Dyno Shop of BangShift.com, which clearly meant we had the opportunity to plant cheat sheets before class started. But, surprisingly, we didn’t need them. Hell, we even got some stuff right and askes some smart questions.

The coolest thing about the classes is that no matter what your fuel injection knowledge base, you can attend one of FAST’s classes and learn something new. We had a lot of questions as to how the XFI system compared to the EMS Pro and Megasquirt systems we are most familiar with, and learned a lot about the cool features of the FAST XFI system. It turns out the similarities are many, but that there are also some super duper bitchin features the XFI offers that we would love to test out. Our favorite has to be the 4 stage Power Adder feature. Yep, the FAST XFI will support FOUR STAGES OF NITROUS!!! Okay, this is honestly only one of the things the Power Adder feature can do, but it certainly is the one that gets us most excited.

While in class, and during the engine dyno demonstrations, we learned how to create base spark and fuel table, view both in 3D, and make adjustments to get the engine running for the first time. The “textbook” that is given to you as a participant in the class is very thorough, and walks you through all the steps to make starting your first EFI engine a drama free experience. We found out that the FAST XFI runs in both open and closed loop modes, and that all you have to do is get the tune “close” and the XFI will keep up and make your engine run smooth. The closed loop function, and the XFI’s data logging capabilities then allow you to see the correction the computer is making to your tune so that you can tweak on it further and get is even closer.

There were also some neat little tech tips for tuning spark and fuel that allow you to save some time. For instance, with FAST’s database of files from known engine combos, you can pick the one that mostly closely resembles your engine combination and be well on your way to a clean running powerful fuel injected combo in no time. This allows you to tweak the tune without building it from scratch. What a time saver.

You can attend your own FAST XFI Fuel Injection Training Course by checking out the link on www.FASTEFI.com. You can also find out details on the lastest offerings from FAST, including new modules, the CAN system that FAST uses, as well as info on EZ-EFI and the new EZ-TCU.

Yes, we said EZ-TCU, as in transmission controller. We saw one at Westech, and it makes installing a 4L60e, 4L65e, 4L80e, or 4L85e into your hot rod or muscle car a snap. To say we were impressed would be an understatement. Keep watching the FAST EFI website for updates as they become available from a FAST dealer near you. You are going to want one for sure.

We want to personally thank Brulio, Rick, and Ernie from Westech, for being awesome hosts as always, and Chris, Lance and the entire FAST crew for putting on such a great course and answering all our questions. And last but certainly not least, Brian Macy from www.horsepowerconnection.com and www.efiuniversity.com for putting together an excellent ciriculum. We enjoyed it thoroughly, and you will too. Now hurry up and sign up. You’ll be tuning your own car to perfection in no time!

Check out this motley crew of editors. Going back to school was traumatic for some we’re sure.

FAST XFI Class

Westech Performance Group’s own, BangShift approved dyno operator extraordinaire, Steve Brule was on hand giving demos on both Superflow 902 Engine Dynos. This one has Brulio “tuning” the new FAST EZ-EFI. It took less than 10 minutes to enter the required data and have this never run combo hitting the right Air Fuel Ratio. It was amazingly impressive to see in action. We want one for our Project ’66 Wagon’s new 383 stroker motor.

Hot Rod Magazine’s newest staff member, Mike Finnegan, was on hand for FAST’s XFI Class as well. In fact, it was his very first assignment as a Hot Rod staffer. He sat in the back of the class next to us, and yet still paid attention.

I purchased an xfi fuel injection system. Every component was installed correctly and professionly programed by a fast dealer. the power was down in comparison to the optimized carburetor that the system replaced. As the vehicle is driven it just shuts off. It restarts immediately most of the time or after a few tries. This shut off problem is not able to be repeated by any circumstance and randomly occurs. We have positively determined that the computer looses the injector signal. The injectors continue to get power but the ground circut is gone. After 3 days of struggling we are unable to resolve the problem. We also tried another computer with the same results. the response from fast was move the components around and see if it makes a difference, hardly a solution. Is there anyone out there who can afford any help please?
