The Answer to Yesterday’s Mystery Flathead Photos!

The Answer to Yesterday’s Mystery Flathead Photos!

Yesterday we showed you several photos of a totally awesome inline flathead engine that combined both modern supercharging and EFI technology with architecture of what is essentially an old tractor engine. As we stated yesterday, we’re not sure why it was built, if it was used, when it may be used or anything along those lines, but it reeks of Bonneville goodness.

On the good side, we can tell you that the engine is part of an amazing private collection that we have been granted access to and will be exploring soon. The mysteries will remain though as the owner wants to remain anonymous. We’re digging the secrecy.

Anyway, the answer to the question? That is a Hudon 308ci engine was was guessed by one of two of our very astute readers! Here are a couple photos below. We did some snappy MS Paint work to grey out the word Hudson which is cast into the aluminum head. This thing must really sound awesome with the blower and those long tube headers!

Hudson power!

Yeah ! My memory is still ( relatively ) intact . Thought that was the engine under the hood of the old mans Hudson back in the day with a few modifications

Twin-H power; no wonder it was such a dominant force in the early days of NASCAR. There are guys out there today with (relatively) stock early-’50’s Hudsons that are giving unsuspecting mokes fits at stop lights. I say: the sneakier, the better!

Wasn’t there a ’49 -’51 Hudson using Twin-H power and a big turbo that was a surprise terror in Hot Rod’s Drag Week a few years ago?
