Racing Junk Find: A 1990s-Tastic Pontiac Grand Am Pro Street Machine

Racing Junk Find: A 1990s-Tastic Pontiac Grand Am Pro Street Machine

Since the ass-high, side piped, rubber protruding from the fenders look of the 1970s street machine is  now back in vogue, the pastel painted Pro Street wonders of the 1990s will be back soon enough. Get ahead of the trend and buy this complete time capsule Grand Am! Yes, the paint scheme may cause family members and close friends to deny that they know you in public, but give it time, you’ll be the hit of the cruise in about 15 years or less.

Truth be told, we really dig this car. It looks to be really well constructed. The interior shots show clean tin work, the nice incorporation of the factory dash, and a pair of well bolstered racing seats because this baby was built to corner. Oh wait. It wasn’t.

The chassis is a 2×3 square tube piece with a cage designed for east entry and exit (read: not tech legal). There are coil overs up front and an adjustable four-link rear suspension out back. By the appearance of the underside of the car, this vehicle has been driven approximately 0.0 miles. Yeah, the polished aluminum center section and aluminum drive shaft gave that away for us.

The engine is a GM Crate LS6 454 big block that makes approximately 600hp. The motor is topped with the Pro Street standard Dominator carb and like the rest of the car is adorned with all types of polished hardware.

The asking price is $64,000 and there is a looooong llist of parts and modifications that we’ve not mentioned yet. Hit the link below to see a full gallery of photos and the entire write up on this car.

The $64,000 question is: Do you want this car?

Maybe an 84? Sweet car, and an incredible build quality. Fun to have around, but who the heck can possibly buy this?

I can get a 2008-09 Z06 Vette used for under $55K. Faster, more fun and doesn’t have a paint job that looks like a ’80’s work out video.

It’s wearing 80’s paint, but current Mickey Thompsons and billet wheels. Was built recently or just has updated rolling stock.

it just waiting for the eighties to come back. i can just see some mulet head redneck driving it now. that has more money than cents

Is that the next retro? I could almost see some hipster kid with rich parents getting that “ironically.”
And yes, flat black would make this car cool. Or maybe primer grey with an actual hood.

I only wish the price of HRD was a bit cheaper. $6.99 is a bit much and before you say “get a subscription” I did the math and you don’t save all that much. They want readers they have to “sweeten the pot’ by offering a real decent sub deal. HR just sent my a three year deal for only $20. I still didn’t renew as I have not cared for the stupidity they keep putting in the magazine. Junk that was worse than cars I had years ago is now cover material. Sorry, to me, a hot rod was a car that looked and ran REALLY GOOD not some piece of crap ’79 Buick that sat in Jethro’s front yard with rusted quarters and three different colors on the hood and front fenders.
