Smash And Grab: These Thieves Used A Land Rover To Steal A Ford Escort Mk1

Smash And Grab: These Thieves Used A Land Rover To Steal A Ford Escort Mk1

Car thieves are not like the glamorous Memphis Raines character that Nicolas Cage played in the Gone in 60 Seconds re-boot movie. Instead they are pure blunt-force-trauma, using whatever tactic is necessary to get the target. In this case, out of Ripley, England, the thieves used a Land Rover as a breaching tool to break through the front door of Trackspeed Racing. Backing the truck in, two thieves got out and attached chains to a 1972 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico, then towed it away. The entire incident took all of forty seconds.

We know the Mk1 Escort as a rally badass, but this one was just a hair bit more than that. Mk1 Escorts are insanely popular right now in the U.K. and this one is packing a V8 on top of everything else. Valued at over $180,000, there’s little doubt that this was a targeted car.

Police and social networks are hunting for the Escort. So far the only bits of evidence that have been released consists of the CCTV footage and that West Horsley police found an old-style Land Rover Defender burnt out in the woods, though at this point they aren’t sure if it’s the same truck used.

All these businesses need to prevent these kinds of bash and grabs is a three inch tubular bar mounted three feet off of the floor and the length of the front of the wall. If maggots have to torch something, or have to bash it for more than thirty seconds they’ll leave or never even attempt it. I dealt with mail box theft/mail panel break ins for years and I could design anti theft devices all day if anyone’s interested. This theft makes the idea of vigilantism rise to the top of the storyboard again……………
