Well that didn’t take long. An AP report published yesterday says that China has passed the US for first place in terms of the sale of new cars. Our junk box of an economy, combined with their 1.6 billion people who have been saving their pennies, seems to have made the difference.
Before you pick up that bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 in anger, realize that the biggest winner in all of this is General Motors, which saw its Chinese sales skyrocket 38 percent over the course of the first six months of the year. This is in stark contrast to the wasteland that is the sales figures here in the US.
In a twist of irony that made us mildly queasy, it was noted that the Chinese government put through several measures to bolster the sales of cars in China. Luckily we live in a country where auto manufacturers exist on their own merits without meddling from the government.
Oh wait….
