MAHLE Motorsport Introduces Forged PowerPak Piston Kit for LT-based Direct Injected EcoTec3 5.3L Engine

When the transition from the LS to the LT family of GM engines was taking place, some people freaked out. There was direct injection and subtle design changes that hot rodders got nervous about. Direct injection brought on may things that most people had not messed with yet and there were new things to learn and explore.

There was fear about the fuel system and even stuff all the way down to the pistons. How would we make more power? Was this going to be an engine that wasn’t great for hot rodding? Of course like all of these fears that have crept into the hot rodding world when new engines arrive, they were largely unfounded. The LT series is bad ass, people have learned the ups and downs of Direct Injection, and the aftermarket has stepped up with parts.

MAHLE Motorsport is the latest company to jump into the LT fray with their new forged PowerPak piston kit for LT-based direct injected EcoTec3 5.3L engines. These are a forged replacement piston that maintains stock compression ratio and that so not require the engine to be rebalanced.

The need for these pistons is obvious. Any sort of power adder work with these engines is far safer and better to be done with a forged piston as opposed to the factory pieces. These also give the engine owner a great foundation to build off of when they are looking to increase power over time.

If you have an LT and are looking at upgrades, start here! The full story from MAHLE Motorsport is below.

Fletcher, NC, (May 7, 2020) – The GM 5.3L L83 / LT /EcoTec3 PowerPak Piston Kit is MAHLE Motorsport’s latest addition to a growing line of drop-in pistons for direct-injected LT-based engines, including the EcoTec3 V8; filling the need for a forged replacement piston as a drop-in, ready-to-run assembly that requires no rebalancing or compression ratio change.

The pistons are dual coated with phosphate and MAHLE’s GRAFAL® skirt coating for reduced drag, wear and noise, and hard anodized top ring grooves for maximum durability and to protect against micro-welding. 1.0, 1.0, 2.0mm HV385 coated steel rings are also included.
