Bonneville Speed Week 2017: We’ve Been Off The Salt For A Week But The Photo Flow Keeps On Rolling

Yes, we have been removed from the Bonneville Salt Flats for about a week now but that doesn’t mean we’re done sharing images and stories from the salt with you. Not by a long shot.

This gallery consists of photos I nabbed in the staging lanes on both the long and short courses. I tried to bounce around as much as possible during the week, as did Chad. While the real heavy iron runs on the long course, there’s still an amazing array of awesome equipment that attacks the “short” course and the rookie course is cool because you see lots of new drivers and cars getting either shaken down or building up speed run after run to “graduate” to one of the competition courses on the salt.

It was a 7-mile drive from the pits to the short course this year. Race officials chose the best salt they could find and the general consensus was that the short course was the smoother and more tractive of the two courses but cars like the Speed Demon proved that the long one could be conquered as they ran more than 450mph on their final run (exit speed). Insanity.
