Cruise Coverage: Rumbling Into the Lexington Hardee’s For A Night Of Summer Hot Rod Fun

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – We’d heard there was a regular cruise-in at a Hardee’s location in Lexington for a while and a few folks said it had a decent turnout with some interesting stuff.  Despite losing two header bolts on the way there we made it and enjoyed taking in the cars and folks in attendance.  Before we got there a stop for some fuel was needed and as we pulled up to the pump there sat what looked like an old hot rod F1.  It took off before we had a chance to check it out, but luckily it showed up at the cruise and here are photos to prove its greatness.

A slick fastback Torino and drop-top Cougar came in a little later and both had everyone gawking.  The Cougar is something no one sees very often and the Torino looked like a fresh build.  We couldn’t resist checking out the powder blue more-door Studebaker with a fairly-clean LS swap and killer stance.  A righteous driver for sure.  A blown Coyote 5.0 had a particularly-nasty exhaust note and looked nearly every bit the part, but appeared to be minus the safety equipment to run the number I’m sure it’s capable of.

A wonderful, woodgrain-sided Buick Roadmaster wagon was there looking every bit the part of an awesome roadtrip/tow rig.  Like much.  We considered the trip a success as less than 50% of the cars there was stuff we’d seen before.  Finished out the evening by walking about 100ft up the road and bought some extra header bolts to fix our newly-acquired exhaust leak.

Enjoy.
