(Photos by Anthony Festa – Check out his website) – We have to thank Anthony Festa for sharing his killer photos from the 2017 Race of Gentlemen with us. The annual gathering has gained international attention and has sparked or spawned an amazing level of interest in early hot rods and vintage speed equipment. Not that things weren’t busy already but this really helped to pour a bucket of gasoline on the fire.
It is the simplicity of these events that people love. It is not about scoreboards, speed, a midway, a t-shirt cannon, or keeping an audience 100% entertained with bells and whistles. Nope, this is about the time before bells and whistles, a time when the only thing simpler than the racing were the cars themselves. That’s what these photos capture.
You’ll see more of the early hot rods and motorcycles you have some to love in the photos below. There are times when this scene can get s little over the top as well but we find that happens more at events where everyone is just dying to be noticed. At The Race of Gentlemen the period attire, paint, and weird facial hair is all secondary to the cars and the fun…just the way it should be.
