We just shared the video that Richard made about testing a junkyard 8.1L Vortec engine with a Summit Racing S475 turbo that made gobs of power and 850 lb ft of torque. And in a previous video Richard tested a cam swapped 5.3 with that same turbo. What’s interesting is that both naturally aspirated combos, even though one is an LS and one is a Big Block, made 424 horsepower. The torque numbers were a bit different but they are still close enough that Richard thought comparing the two combos would be interesting. And boy is it. Now I’m trying to decide which one is better for my square body. Hmmmm
Video Description:
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ADD THE SAME SUMMIT RACING S475 TURBO TO A 5.3L WITH A BTR TRUCK NORRIS CAM AND A STOCK 8.1L BBC? WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY BOTH MAKE THE SAME PEAK POWER? HOW MUCH TORQUE DOES EACH MOTOR MAKE NA AND WITH 7 PSI OF BOOST? WHICHONE WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE? CAN THE BOOSTED (& CAMMED) 5.3L LS COMPETE WITH THE BOOSTED 8.1L BBC? CHECK OUT ALL THE DATA ON THE NA POWER AND TORQUE CURVES ALONG WITH THE BOOSTED POWER AND TORQUE CURVES. THEN CHECK OUT THE DIFFERENCE IN BOOST VS BACK PRESSURE CURVES. LOTS OF GOOD STUFF HERE!
