Do Tunnel Rams Really Make More Power? Carb vs EFI Intake Testing On A 468 Cubic Inch Stroker LS

Do Tunnel Rams Really Make More Power? Carb vs EFI Intake Testing On A 468 Cubic Inch Stroker LS

Everyone in the hot rodding world seems to have a favorite intake manifold design, and there has never been a better time to be a hot rodder or racer because there has never been a time in our lives when it was easier to make horsepower. Most of that comes from better parts designs, better manufacturing, and decades of research and development. Oh, and tunnel rams are cool. Period. But they also make killer power and everyone that watches any form of racing knows that when allowed a lot of folks use them. Or something like them. What many folks don’t realize is that many of the modern EFI tall intake manifolds, like Holley’s Hi-Ram, are tunnel ram intakes with an EFI top on them. But how much power are tunnel rams worth? Or do the current batch of trick EFI intake manifolds use science better to make more power?

In this video from Richard Holdener, there are no shortage of numbers to look at, tests to compare, and theories to discuss which is why you are going to want to watch it and get your questions answered. Keep in mind, this test is going to give numbers that will help you decide on an intake but you really do need to remember how you are using your engine. Is it a race car, a driver, both? What you are going to do with it makes a difference in what intake you should choose for your particular ride.

Watch the video below and let us know what you think.
