Why Do Some Engines Burn Oil And Others Don’t? And What Can You Do About It With A Motor Oil!

We’ve shared plenty of engine oil videos around here, and there is a lot of information to go through if you really want to take a deep dive into the subject. Thankfully we have the Motor Oil Geek, who makes all the best videos on the subject of engine oils and lubrication. We’ve learned a lot from him and you will too in the video below. For example, did you know that some modern engines are actually expected to burn some oil? I mean they wouldn’t use it as a selling point, but in an era where we have become used to engines so efficient and well sealed that they hardly use any oil, any deviation from that can be kind of worrisome. So how much oil consumption is okay, and how much isn’t? Just because your engine uses oil doesn’t mean it is time for a rebuild or replacement.

But if you own an engine that tends to burn more oil, should you just be pouring cheap oil in like we would have in the 1980s? Or is there something specific we need to know? How much is too much and what can you do about it that will help and not hurt the problem.

Watch the video below and then let us know what you think in the comments.

Video Description:

Oil Consumption – this is not a fun topic. Just ask Ford, who is facing a class action lawsuit related to excessive oil consumption. There are 3 key areas when it comes to oil consumption. We will even cover some advice for dealing with oil consumption. However, one of the reasons this topic is difficult is because there are no easy answers. In fact what can help reduce oil consumption in one engine could actually increase oil consumption in another engine.
