Since the LS engine’s inception, there have been Ford guys talking about similarities between the LS and Ford small block platforms and even rumors of Ford actually designing the LS engine originally. There are some similarities, there is not doubt, but most of that is likely just the evolution of engines. With that said, if we take a good Small Block Ford and make it gooder, and then take a good LS engine and make it gooder, and both are the same size, there should be some ways to compare their performance don’t you think?
We do, and so did Richard Holdener, so the guru of the dyno is going to be talking about this cool 6.0 L Ford vs LS shootout! Watch.
Video Description:
CAN A SMALL BLOCK FORD MAKE AS MUCH POWER AS AN LS? WHICH MOTOR MAKES MORE POWER, A 363-INCH (6.OL) FORD OR A 364-INCH (6.0L) LS? SHOULD I BUILD A SMALL BLOCK FORD OR LS? HOW MUCH POWER ARE BIGGER HEADS WORTH ON A FORD OR LS? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I COMPARED TWO 6.0L COMBOS. COMBO 1 WAS A 363 STROKER SMALL BLOCK FORD. COMBO 2 WAS A 6.OL LS. I EVEN RAN TWO DIFFERENT CYLINDER HEADS ON EACH COMBO TO DEMONSTRATE THE POWER GAINS OFFERED BY CYLINDER HEAD UPGRADES. WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
An engine doesn’t know what name is on its valve covers. It’s an air pump plain and simple. Build two same sized engines with similar combos and you will get very similar results regardless of the brand. As to which one I would build it all depends on the vehicle it is going into and what the vehicle will be used for.
