Power is great, but physics is what controls how quick your 4.8L LS powered machine will accelerate and sometimes that isn’t just about adding more power. In fact, there might be other things that work even better than more power. It’s the smallest LS engine, so while a cam will make it much happier, I think gears and a converter are probably some of the smartest additions you can make with that cam. Check out Richard’s video to see what the numbers say.
HOW CAN I ADD MORE TORQUE TO MY 4.8L? HOW MUCH POWER DOES A CAM ADD TO MY 4.8L? WILL SHORTER GEARS HELP MY 4.8L DOWN LOW? HOW ABOUT A HIGHER STALL-SPEED CONVERTER? ARE A CONVERTER AND GEARS A MUST WHEN RUNNING A CAMMED 4.8L? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I ARGUE THAT THE BEST WAY (SHORT OF BOOST AND/OR DISPLACEMENT) TO ADD LOW SPEED TORQUE TO YOUR 4.8L IS TO HAVE IT RUN MORE RPM! ADDING A HIGHER STALL SPEED CONVERTER AND HIGHER (NUMERICAL) REAR END GEARS WILL HELP ADD SOME PUNCH TO THAT CAMMED 4.8L!
