Craigslist Find: Is This 383 Chevy Powered, 1984 Pontiac T1000 Worth $4,000?

BangShifter Chris Cabe gets the credit for finding this mean spirited little car for sale on Craigslist and sharing it with us. The mean machine is a 1984 Pontiac T1000 which packs a 383 Chevy small block stroker engine under its wee little hood. The car is shockingly clean, straight, and no hacked. The interior photos are amazing for two reasons. The first is that it appears no one has ever sat in the car before and the second is that it is shocking how craptacular the factory interior in a Pontiac T1000 actually was. It looks like a jail holding cell in there or something. That being said, it completely adds to the sneaky nature of the car.

The Chevette sleeper idea is always a winner until you roll the key over and people can actually hear the car run. Once that happens the jig is literally up and you then just have to play the “I have a V8 Pontiac T1000/Chevette” card which is not a bad card to play but not as cool as “sleeper”. The one thing about this car that cracked us up came from both what we saw and then what we read in the ad. This line was the gem from the ad, “suspension could be gone through alignment, shocks ect.” Ya think? Look at the front wheels on this thing! There’s so much negative camber in those suckers that this thing must drive like a schitzo golf cart or something. It can be fixed and it will be fixed by whoever scoops the car up, and at $4,000 someone will quickly.

We think that it is totally worth the money. The car is the cooler Pontiac T1000, the paint is good, the interior is mint, assuming whoever did the motor was good this is a great little tire burning package to freak people out with. We say BUY!

What’s with the front tires/wheels ? It looks like they’re really cambered out at the bottom.

Even with highway gears that thing should spin ’em like it’s on ice. Yes.

I drove by a place that had a green four door T1000 sitting there this morning and was contemplating building something very similar (although I would probably have used LS power). Good thing this one isn’t in Atlanta or I might be on the way to check it out.

I had a blue 84 T1000 in college. The tiny brakes on these cars were marginal at best so I can imagine what adding 300hp and 200lbs more to the front end will do.

Ain’t no Pontiac worth a buck much less 4,000 bucks. Do the thing a favor and crush it.

Yeah I heard of the G8. And all the other POS that Pontiac made for years, I stand by what I said.
But you do have the right to disagree with me and be wrong. 🙂

Looks like it could use front springs, but otherwise, nice looking swap. I’d totally drive that.

That is a sweet sleeper! I do believe that many have fallen victim to this one! Like a K-car with a 360 or a Pinto with a 302. I say good job, pretty sneaky too!

Once again the “my brand or no brand” idiots speak. Agree with Jimmy. A total douche bag comment.

Man I’d drive the snot out of this thing. We had a ’76 and a ’78 Chevette when I was growing up. They weren’t fast by no means but they sure were fun cars to put around in. Plus they were tough. They can take a hit. I always wanted to drop a Caddy 500 in one and do a cheap drag car build. Oh wait that’s been done…..Grrrrr. But still I’d like to have it. I’d like to have a Chevette to drive to work in really. Daily Drive it like a disco star.

My brother had a stock Chevrette… If there was a hill approaching that poor thing would slow down out of fear. I love this poncho and if it were 2000 miles closer, and I could promise to get the ac working, I bet my wife would go for it. She is getting tile in the entryway now, it would be the perfect time.

I have that exact car, 68,768 miles on it. My grandmother barely drove it the past 30 years and just kept it in her garage. It’s all original, like the gm matts, am radio, engine blah blah it’s all working and it’s only sign of rust it weird specs behind the tires. It’s got like 75 horse power XD cool right?
