Now THIS is fun drag racing TV, to us anyway. You are going to watch an episode of NHRA Today made at the Texas motorplex 26 years ago during the 1992 Chief Auto Parts Nationals in Texas. It is fun because this episode was made LIVE and it includes driver interviews, some back story stuff, and live pro stock qualifying. These guys were hustling as Evans was in the pits, Mac and Brock Yates were in the booth, and Bob Frey was on the starting line. All of the guys get a piece of the action in the show and the mix of live racing action and stuff from the pits is pretty awesome. It has a neat feel to it and we love how the four guys bounce the work around seamlessly.

1992 Pro Stock was good stuff. I was 12 and the cars were definitely awesome. On my all-time list of neat looking pro stock bodies, I have the 3rd generation Firebird as number one and the Olds Cutlass of this era as 1a. Rickie Smith’s sweet STP ‘Bird was among my favorites. You’ll see it among other cars on the show here.

The Texas Motorplex was still pretty new at this place and it had set the standard for what a professional level drag racing facility was to look like from the moment it opened in 1986. At one time the place was in the middle of nowhere and while it still has plenty of cushion, it seems to us that the cities of Ennis and Waxahatchie are starting to expand outward. Long live the Motorplex!

It\’s crazy to see the ET spread in TF. Amato #1 qualifier at 4.79. #4 is KB at 4.89, a whole TENTH slower. and a 5.11 bump, over 3 tenths slower. Say what you want about 1000\’ and car counts, but today\’s fields are MUCH tighter.
