The Monday Shift: Make A 9-Second Pass In A Lenco Equipped 1933 Willys

This video features a quarter mile pass from inside a tiny 1933 Willys coupe. The car is apparently powered by a Ford big block engine and backed with a four speed Lenco transmission. It sounds great, drives straight, and pulls hard all the way down the track. Unlike some drag race videos that drag on and on before the action starts, our man in this video is pulling into the water box about 15-seconds into the footage. You’ll see him pull a gear in the burnout, reset all the levers and then hammer ’em all back as he flies down the drag strip. For as quick as this car is, we’re thinking that he should be wearing gloves and stuff but perhaps it is just a hair above that elapsed time requirement.

The view out of the windows is pretty washed out, which under normal circumstances would suck but because the cool stuff is happening inside the car where things are crisp and clear, it ends up working in the viewer’s favor. This is a neat car and it would still be cool with a Powerglide or a four speed, but there’s not a damned cooler than a Lenco. We’re talking zero Kelvin, kids.

Too bad we cannot get the view out the windshield. But that tight pedal box is what I was watching. The driver seems to handle it fine, but I would be clobbering the gas, brake and clutch all at once in an emergency!
