Relive The 1996 Chevy High Performance Nationals At Heartland Park Topeka Through These Great Photos –

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Believe it or not I don’t have hundreds of photos from this one and I cannot recall why. I do know it was my first time seeing Nick Scavo’s awesome Impy and Brent Jarvis’ absolutely stunning purple corvette. It was also the only time I got to see the HotRod magazine hauler in person. What I remember about the event was it being humid, there were storms around, and everything was a Chevy or at least Chevrolet- powered. There were some standout cars and some cars that were running NMCA came and made a few 1/8th mile shots to wow the crowd.

I also remember seeing my first new SS Camaro that was ordered with the optional BFG R1 gumballs and saw my first Pro-streeted 4th-gen f-body. I was stationed at Offutt AFB, NE at the time thus Scribner, NE and Topeka being the two closest tracks around if you wanted to see racing on a hard surface. While stationed there I spent way more time autocrossing and watching sprint cars out at I-80 speedway than anything else.

Check out Doug’s great snaps from the event –

Any gallery that includes Nick Scavo’s ’65 Impala is a winner in my book. Yes, I am biased. So what.

Scott, that’s okay I am pretty biased on that epic impy too. Actually, a bunch of the fasttimes cars were totally awesome. Chuck’s El Camino was tops.
