Watch This Corvette Take Down A Pole And Nearly Hit A Tank At A Drag Race On The Public Street – CRAZY!

Watch This Corvette Take Down A Pole And Nearly Hit A Tank At A Drag Race On The Public Street – CRAZY!

Yesterday we showed you a guy nearly getting squashed between two cars during a drag racing event being held on a public street in Oklahoma. This was not an illegal street race as local authorities were involved and thankfully so in this case. Instead of a starting line problem here we have a full blown catastrophe at the big end of the “track”.

The car involved is a pretty serious looking Corvette that has a tube chassis, a blown big block, and a big ol’ Oklahoma boy behind the wheel. As there were no clocks and no person in the other lane we are not sure why the dude wanted to hammer down the course absolutely as hard as the car could go, but that is what he did. After he lifted at what seems to be a speed of well in excess of 100mph, the Corvette went into the shutdown area, which happened to have a big hill in it. We’re not talking a Bandimere hill here, we’re talking a public street hill.

Still carrying big speed, the Corvette came over the top of the hill, the chassis unloaded the back en, likely overloaded the front and then the guy was screwed. Making an abrupt left the car turned a telephone pole into toothpicks, rolled, caught fire at least briefly, and nearly crashed into a tank parked outside the local Veteran’s hall. Coming to a stop on its roof, the Corvette was completely destroyed and the driver should be counting his lucky stars to have been able to walk away as normally as possible.

We are not celebrating the fact that this dude wrecked his car and we’re also not saying that local events like this should be discontinued but c’amon man. At some level isn’t this like the kid that treated every gym class as the seventh game of the world series, Super Bowl, and final round at Agusta all the same? Would it have been enough to just go out there, do a ripper of a burnout and then rip a gear and then kill it? The car was barely, if ever, actually hooked up and as soon as it crested that hill, it got bad and it got bad fast.

Hopefully all the guys who came to the thing with slower cars and had a good time will be able to return next year.

Who could have guessed that cresting a hill with the power on at the top end could result in problems?

uh…the common theme between this and yesterdays video is the event itself – I am staggered that in a country like the US that is litigation happy and seems to be a lot safer than stuff we do in Australia that this event went ahead at all. Between huge blocks of concrete either side of the track you have wooden poles, a friggin hill to slow down on and a tank to crash into if you get it wrong…I think this is going to end in court…

It looked like a circus before he even left the starting line. Look at the guy trying to line him up, lol. They’ve been watching too much street outlaws. I’d like to have seen him spray it also, would have went off like a bomb.

Well, that oughta put an end to the fun for everyone. Taking down a pole like that and making such a huge spectacle surely makes town officials think about the worst possible scenario, and that won’t be good.
Hope all these folks enjoyed it while they could.

Don Your an asshole!!! the driver of that car is a friend of my husband’s and you need to shut your mouth!!!!

I don’t agree with the “fuck him” or “he deserves what he got” comments but Don is 100% right about the car. Whomever built it and set it up the way it was is an idiot!

I don’t understand why races like this are still happening. The stupidity is beyond belief…..and shame on that town for allowing this moron circus to take place.

    1. Andamo

You’ve nailed it Jerry. Apparently these towns never learned a thing from the accident in 2007 in Tennessee where 7 spectators were killed.

      X3, Jerry!
I will post here what i posted in the video:
–> Further proof that street-racing and quasi (set up) “street-racing” is stupid. Stop wasting time and just go to a real track.

Oops! Sorry, I missed a word:
“I will post here what i posted in the OTHER video:”

Would you rather they be racing on streets open to traffic? They WILL race somewhere. A closed off street is safer than an opened opened one.

They do need to tighten up on safety a little more though.

This shit is foolish, dangerous and makes car people as a whole look bad. Needs to come to an end. Take it to a real, prepped track before someone gets killed.

Sorry to see the car messed up. Glad everyone is OK. I have to agree this street scene ain’t too smart. I moved to the tracks years ago.

I don’t think the event needs to shut down. Venues like this can be fun and draw audiences and racers who wouldn’t otherwise go to a track. The responsibility for safety does lie with the driver at least partially.

“draw audiences and racers who wouldn’t otherwise go to a track”

Why wouldn’t they go to a purpose built track to watch this? Surely we aren’t talking about a family day out with the kids? “What shall we do today?” “Let’s watch some drag racing” “OK, shall we go to a track with a safety policy and timing lights and a grandstand and facilites, or shall we take the kids 10 mins down the road where we may end up in a fireball?”

Pay the entrance fee, have fun and make it home alive.

It looks as though he shut off right as he crested that tiny hill. You can’t do that. You either need to keep your foot in it over the hill or let off before. This is one of those things you tell the guys with fast cars who road race. Never lift off the crest. We don’t normally have those situations in Drag Racing because the tracks are designed flat. If he would’ve had a background in road racing, he would have lifted before or made sure the end point of the “drag strip” was several feet before the crest.
