Making Frame Rails: Road Race Hot Rod Chassis Building Continues

In a previous blog post we talked about the front suspension on this cool 1931 Ford Truck that is going together over at StanceWorks and today it is getting more of the touches done, including the custom front frame rails. Check it out.

Building complicated shapes and structures at home can be a challenge sometimes, but if you use the methods in this video you’ll see just what is possible without anything but simple cutting and forming tools. With a vice, cut-off wheel, grinder, some hammers and a good crescent wrench all the shapes in this video could be duplicated at home with some simple steel plate or sheet metal. Sure, a press brake attachment for your shop press would make things even easier, but a lot is possible with a little if you look at building metal structures this way.

In this video, you’ll see the frame rails come together for the chassis and suspension parts that were built from scratch using heavy sheet metal and plate that is formed and welded together. It’s cool and fun and again, something you can do when building chassis and suspension components.
