There’s cool, there’s really cool, and then there is freaking fiberglass-bodied Mercedes 300 SL over a tube chassis with a small block Chevy and Cragar Soft 8 wheels cool. This is a car that’s so BangShifty, so interesting, and so flat out neat that we can hardly stand it. The backstory is even pretty great. The tale of some guys who were going to make cheap ‘glass bodies copying one of the most iconic and beautiful sports cars of all time until they got caught and made exactly one. That body languished for decades until being found, fixed, and then the rest of the car was basically built to fit under it.

The car is a basic tube chassis with a small block Chevy engine, a manual transmission, and two aluminum racing seats. The interior of the car makes a prison cell look well appointed and stylish because of its minimalist approach. The suspension setup is unequal a-arms up front and a four link out back.  We know that the car gets raced and driven and that’s the best part. We also know that the $25,000 asking price seems super reasonable as this is a turn key show stopper that you can actually beat on. The car is pictured below with the Soft 8s on but it comes with some re-pop Halibrand style wheels which are knockout perfect gorgeous.

The car has been races sparingly over the last 10 years, it has been shown, and it has to draw a crowd like flies no matter where it goes. This is a boss car and one that we think clicks all the boxes when it comes to cool.

eBay: Tube chassis, fiberglass body Mercedes-Benz 300SL is 100% Bang Shift approved!

I wouldn’t give 25 cents for this Chevy powered abortion that is an insult to the great original classic!
