Riding Up Pikes Peak on the Roll Bar of a Screaming Chevy Equipped Cobra Will Make You Want To Carve Corners Today!

Riding Up Pikes Peak on the Roll Bar of a Screaming Chevy Equipped Cobra Will Make You Want To Carve Corners Today!

Randy Schranz of Colorado Springs, Colorado won the Open class at Pikes Peak in 2012 with a propane fueled, Chevy small block powered, Cobra and in the process recorded his 37th finish up Pikes Peak. With that run, Schranz owned the record for the most finishes, displacing the man formerly known as “The King of the Mountain” Louis Unser.

This video rules because it is bone stock simple. A GoPro on the roll bar of a fast car on one of the most majestic and challenging race courses in the world is a perfect recipe for gearhead video perfection. Add in the fact that it is natural sound only with no lame music or stupidity, and this is a kick ass way to spend 11-minutes. This is also cool footage because it is from back when the course was both asphalt AND dirt. These days the Pikes Peak race is contested on a “track” that is asphalt from the start to the finish. It makes for a faster elapsed time but the entertainment value has changed as has the skill set.

When you watch Randy attack this thing on both tarmac and dirt in a flipping COBRA you will really understand the levels of varied talent it took to be fast on the mountain when the road was constantly changing under your tires. A clinic on great driving, this is a really, really fun video to watch.

One of the best videos I’ve seen on this website. Who cares if it’s an sbc. It’s running on propane, sounds fantastic and the guy is driving it like he stole it. Very cool!
