Watch Smokey Yunick Make A Side Splitting Speech From His Induction Into the Daytona Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame

While Smokey Yunick died about 16 years ago now, his legend continues on and will for generations. We got tipped off to this truly awesome video by a guy who said that it was must watch stuff. He was right. In this video Yunick is making an acceptance speech after being inducted into the Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame in Daytona Beach, this is an HoF run by the local Rotary club and is not (as far as we know) connected to NASCAR directly. Of course the “real” NASCAR hall of fame is in Charlotte and they still have not let the late Smokey Yunick in.

Yunick is on his stuff in this one. His cracks are hilarious, his language is not exactly work safe, and his sincere appreciation for what others did for racing during the years when NASCAR was getting off the ground is genuine. There’s not much more to say here other than that this is 10-minutes of 100% pure gold.

CAUTION: THERE IS SWEARING AND SOME MILDLY ROUGH LANGUAGE HERE — BE WARNED IF YOU ARE WATCHING AT WORK! NOTHING OVER THE TOP, BUT NOT CHURCH PEW CONVERSATION EITHER!

All that is left is a vacant lot were the garage stood and a rest room where the local crack heads hang out. The crack heads set fire to the building (probity paid for by bill france), so the city cleared it off as a eye sore. Someone at the city who knew who Smoky Yunick was, put up a street sign ( Smokey Yunick Way) on the side ally that ran down the side of the garage,( bill france probity had a cow). That’s all the city of Daytona gave him as the france’s own the town and nascar. Don Garlits has done Smokey right as he put what he could get in his museum to honor him, go see it. When I was in Daytona for a family matter I was asked if I wanted to tour the speedway and I said hell no I want to see the Best Damm Garage in town and get a picture there, I was shocked to learn what happened. Its all gone! Will send Brian some pictures.
