This 1960 Chevy Wagon Has An Exhaust Stack, A Cummins Diesel Engine, And Not A Lick Of Paint – We Love It

This 1960 Chevy Wagon Has An Exhaust Stack, A Cummins Diesel Engine, And Not A Lick Of Paint – We Love It

McTaggart thought he was pretty tough stuff he found and posted the Cummins swapped Chevy truck the other day. In an effort to keep the man in his place, I offer you this 1960 Chevy wagon which has been repowered by a Cummins 6BT engine, automatic transmission, a periscope-like exhaust stack, and seating for nine people. This car also looks as though it was perfectly weather aged by sitting out in the elements for the entire time it has spent on Earth.

The engine outwardly does not give any appearances outwardly that it has been hot rodded. The stock turbo seems to be in place and there’s not a bunch of interesting looking plumbing, shiny stuff, or other hot roddy elements yelling out to us. Sure, some injectors and basic work can really wake one of these up and perhaps that’s the case. Either way this car would move on down the road sweetly with this engine. Looking around the stack may get tiring for the passenger but other than that we have nothing else to cry about. Getting the body touched up metal-wise and then slathering it in black or some other sinister color would be about the only thing we’d do. Then again we have not seen the interior so that may be a horror show as well. That doesn’t really bother us.

Here’s the short and sweet text from the ad –

Cummins turbo 12 valve 5.9 6 cylinder diesel. Pretty solid body. No dents. Some normal rust. Don’t really matter cause its one of the coolest rat rods in the world. Drive anywhere, power disc brakes, power steering, lights all work, get tons of attention. 9 passenger. If you have to ask the bank or your wife then please don’t waste my time. Serious car. $12500.

    1. Leaving this car a rat rod is a huge disservice

      Not worth $12,500.
The wagon is what gets it,not the Cummins diesel.

      Here’s $5000 for the car.
      OK,here’s $4500 for the car.

OK this whole diesel thing…..its not big in Australia ( I’m being kind, its non existent) and I just don’t get it. Only diesels I’ve ever driven have been Toyota troop carriers and Land cruisers and while I get that they will sit on highway speeds and are relatively economical, that’s about it. They’re slooow, they stink and you have to change gears every 3 seconds to make any kind of headway… so why would hot rodders be into them? I get that you can hot them up but you can hot up electric cars too and they’re not exactly popular with hot rodders… don’t get me started on this rolling coal thing either…. you want to modify them to blow more smoke?? oh kayyyy. Finally, back to this wagon….wouldn’t an ordinary old V8 be a lot more fun? And wtf is the exhaust stack out the engine bay about? I’m not trying to pay this out as a trend, just saying I genuinely do not get it.

I’m with you, I just don’t get it. I’d much rather have the car with a small block or even an inline six.

There’s a car crusher powered by an SOHC Ford on nitrous just itching to make a meal of this ugly mother!

There again it should have been allowed to rot away peacefully!

I like the car but hate the stupid stack going through the hood. Has to be the most over played thing since flat black and red wheels.
