Heavy Duty Junkyard Crawl And Engine Teardown: Watch The DeBoss Garage Guys Get Busy With Some Caterpillar Fun!

I had occasion to meet the guys from DeBoss Garage last week and they were really cool to hang out and have a beer with. They’re the same dudes you see on the screen when you watch their videos which is always good to know. In this installment of the F-Tree Kitty series, our man heads to the wrecking yard to score a couple of Caterpillar diesel engines and then pulls them down in order to make one good engine out of two piles junk parts. Eventually this will all end up in an OBS style Ford F-350 truck. There a lot of take in with this video.

You are going to get the junkyard entertainment, you are going to get a Caterpillar education, and you are going to see the teardown in the monster six cylinder engine that he bought. One engine came from a bus and the other from a GMC Kodiak truck. While visually the same, the power ratings were different. The bus engine is a 190hp unit with 520 lb-ft on the torque side and the GMC engine is a 250hp mill with 660 lb-ft of factory torque. Neither engine is a peach but together they can be good, so he sets about mixing and matching the parts that he’ll need to make it all work.

Not having much experience inside of Caterpillar engines, this is a neat first experience for us. You’ll see lots of the guts of these big engines and likely learn something along the way. This dude is cool and he is fearless when it comes to making stuff!
