Think The Snow Blower That Ate The Geo Was Cool? This Monster Makes It Look Like A Tonka Toy – Behold The Snow Wolf

Think The Snow Blower That Ate The Geo Was Cool? This Monster Makes It Look Like A Tonka Toy – Behold The Snow Wolf

Yesterday Chad showed us a cool video that had one of the more graphically awesome demonstrations of power we have seen in some time when a tractor mounted snowblower actually ate an automobile. Ok, it was a Geo but that is still technically considered an automobile. Chad was pretty proud of himself and rightfully so, it was a cool machine and a cool video but I am about to drop a bomb on him with this yellow monster called the Snow Wolf built by Airport Technologies. Capable of 50mph, capable of moving 75 tons of snow and hour, using a 500hp Cummins diesel to drive itself and another ONE THOUSAND HORSEPOWER Cummins that produces OVER THREE THOUSAND LB/FT of torque to throw snow nearly 100ft, it is breathtaking. This thing really is the topper of all toppers.

Clearly keeping airports open is a prime directive of any municipality that has one. The revenue generated by the traffic in and out, the people coming through, and every other ancillary service at an airport means that closures and shut downs are hugely expensive and damaging. Because of that, runway clearing iron is among the baddest developed by mankind. Yes, there are standard issue looking plows on big tractors and other more traditional style machines, but the Snow Wolf is top shelf. It can operate at 25mph and clear massive swaths for hours on end.

Depending on the type of snow, the listed “casting distance” for this machine is 85-110ft! The demo video below does not show it chewing through deep snow banks but it does show the thing working in some good snow and doing so in a pretty quick fashion. The cab looks like something right off of a John Deere combine and the rest of it kind of looks like a mechanical rhino. We have no idea what list price is but the cost has to be huge. The issues associated with a closed airport dwarf the cost of the machine in short order, though.

Tim Clapp of PT Tech in Ohio reached out to tip us off to the Snow Wolf. He knows them well as the company he works for supplies the clutch unit for the front mounted blower apparatus. That thing seems like it would be a story in and of itself! This is one bad mother.
