This Video Of Two Guys Drag Racing V8 Powered Lawn Tractors Will Crack You Up

This video was filmed at the Knox, Pennsylvania Horse Thief Days where they have all kinds of fun stuff that happens in downtown Knox, but the lawnmower drags are what caught our attention. Lots of modified lawn tractors line up and run down the course on the town’s main street. It is a cool deal and it seems like some of these guys really take their tractors seriously. We were going to run a video that featured two quick, but small engine tractors when we saw this classic footage from the 2012 iteration of the event.

What you are going to see is totally awesome. Both of the guys you see in the lead photo are sitting basically on top of small block V8 engines that have been plugged into garden tractors. Yes, the noses have been stretched, some sort of transmission is living behind the motor and we’re guessing a severely narrowed rear end is out back getting the power to the ground. The two tractors do not look like hack work, it seems that the builders really did a nice job on them, which is super cool. The motors sound pretty much stock, which is fine because outside of their weight, the machines they are mounted in weigh virtually nothing. These thing scoot pretty good when the green light comes on!

We’re guessing the course is 100-150 feet, which is plenty long enough to get a head of steam up and wow the assembled masses. This is fun stuff and we want in!

Outstanding! I used to sell Simplicity’s … the orange and white one. Not like that one. Haha.

But you have to admit…those hay bails ain’t doing nothing if one of those contraptions gets squirrelly!

25 or 30 years ago Russ Colman, from Goshen Indiana, stuffed a 215 aluminum Buick V8 hooked up to a shorty powerglide in a pulling garden tractor. There were no rules against it since it met all the weight and wheelbase rules. He kicked ass, both on dirt and asphalt. Next year there was a rule change that knocked him out. Seems no one else wanted to have to run against him. The sound of his little V8 running in the garden tractor was awesome!!

Hyundai Accent wheels will bolt right on to mowers of this size.
Looks like the show was pretty much over, judging from the photo and those tractor guys staging after them.

This is the highlight of our tiny town’s festival. Do you expect anything less, it is a celebration of horsethieves. lol Get there early! It is always a crowded event!

This is my home town. Both these guys have 350’s packed in these baby’s. The video doesn’t do them any justice. They fly.

Last year they got rid of the hay bales for obvious reasons. I was told yesterday that the simplicity is now sporting a small block 427. This year there will also be one with a small block Ford, it is almost finished and sounds pretty bad a$$. These guys take great pride in their lawn mowers. There are even a few with crotch rocket motors on that are pretty intense. I work at the local parts store and know how much they have vested in these races.

Don’t get me wrong, those are cool, but I wouldn’t want to be standing anywhere near the street when those two went at it.

Go ahead and joke about the safety police.

Did you ever see the video of the Monster Trucks doing an exhibition in the parking lot, with a crowd of onlookers cheering?

It’s all fun and games until a vehicle gets sideways and some little kid is killed or mamed.

Sorry, there’s a reason we have tracks and safety regs.

    Dave
