That being said, the ones that really spin our cranks are those are retain actual AMC power. In the case of Kyle Cimbron’s car we’re talking about an engine swap as AMC never offered the 401 in a Hornet but if you think we’re complaining you’ve eaten lead paint for too long. No way, baby. This is the way that AMC should have offered them in 1970!

The hottest version of the Hornet was the one year only 1971 SC360 model and while those cars were cool, they couldn’t hold a candle to this bad boy. Thanks to the details provided by Mikel Visual who made the video, we can tell you that this rocket’s engine was built by Carlquist Competition engines, it uses a 727 transmission with a transbrake and there’s a set of CalTracs mono-leaf springs holding the axle in place and transferring the power of the car to the ground.

We can tell you that the thing sounds SWEET and you will probably agree. You’ll see it make multiple laps at New England Dragway, speeding towards the tree line at the end of the track. We love the largely factory looks. We’re also in on the cowl hood to clear the engine that rises lots higher than a little 232 lnliner or 304 that could have powered this one from the factory.

We’re all too proud to highlight the guys that are doing it the less common way, the more expensive way, and the more self-driven way. There’s nothing “wrong” with jamming an LS in one of these cars and having fun. If that was the difference between having a hot rod and not having one, we applaud anyone who has a hot rod. The difference is that we know there was extra time spend searching for parts. There was extra expenses justified in having done this way, and that type of commitment is awesome. It is double awesome when the payoff is a 10-second car as bad ass as this one.
