That’s how I spent the first seconds of every day when I was working in an office. I was looking for the near-extinct Renault/Eagle Medallion for reasons I’m still unable to explain other than they’re regarded as one of the least-reliable cars ever built and, consequently, the few sold in the United States are almost all long-gone from the road. I even wrote about the horrible thing once. So I’d put “Medallion” into my CraigsList search engine of choice, which would inevitably spit out instead the same overpriced 1978 Chrysler Lebaron Medallion Edition for sale in Florida (It’s probably still for sale there).
I eventually (wisely) gave up on finding one and in the time since, I created an account on Row 52 to help find parts for the soon-to-be-crushed-in-failure Project Regretmobile 1978 Dodge Magnum. While there was limited parts availability locally, I did set up an alert at the yard closest to me to notify me anytime a pre-1980 car shows up just so I can see if any of them are even remotely interesting. So far, it has also failed to bear fruit in any meaningful way.
So what weird classifieds searches or notifications do you undertake or receive daily? Pro tip: “Project” is a dangerous, dangerous search term.
brake lathe. My cousin had one when they closed the family business. I had no extra money to offer him at the time, so it sold at auction for scrap price.
Chevy Vegas. I want a nice ’74-down model w/ a seized four-cyl for $250 to be close across town just like in the old days so consequently I’ve watched CL/SearchTempest for a long time with no result of course. Really, it’s better that way. From this experience I’ve discovered that some guys will keep their half-done V8 or race-car project they want too much for listed FOR YEARS. I think this one’s been up since 2012: https://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/cto/5816023037.html
“Vintage chainsaw.”
Because motorcycle engine on a whirling stick-of-death with no safety features.
AMC Matador (I am literally always looking for parts)
AMC Hornet (I’ve always wanted one)
6BT (I’ll find something to swap it in)
MercadoLibre Argentina
“Dodge”
MercadoLibre Brasil
“Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford”
Pretty much daily, just keep dreaming.
